Working out which course is suitable for your work place

The information supplied by Vital Signs First Aid is based on the Health and Safety first aid regulations 1981 which applies to work places in the UK. This advice is a guide only as each work places is individual and the amount and level of first aid providers will depend on your work environment the amount of employees and written risk assessments.

 

Low hazards environments (offices, shops)

Number of employees Recommended first aid training.
Less than 25 employees Minimum of one person acting as an appointed person.
20-50 employees Minimum of one person trained in emergency first aid.
50-100 employees Minimum of one person trained in first aid at work.

The minimum HSE requirement for any workplace is the Appointed Person

 

 
Higher hazard environments (Construction, Workshops, Schools, working with machinery)

Number of employees  Recommended first aid training.
Less than 5 employees Minimum of one person acting as an appointed person.
5-50 employees
Minimum of one person trained in emergency first aid or
first aid at work depending on workplace risk assessments.
More than 50 employees Minimum of one person trained in first aid at work (for every 50 employees).
